Update: 6/6/09
This is the final update of the 2008-2009 indoor volleyball season! Island Style made alot of changes to the team this year and we played overall an excelent season... The weekend before nationals we played in the Puget sound region championships and played great all day and finally actually had the whole team there... plus 1!!! Nate is most definatly a great addition to Island Style and we look forward to having him play with us full time next year. Anyway we won the region championships pretty much breazing threw the day and defeating Its Buisness Time in the finals.
Then off to Nationals we went... We most definatly started the tourny off to a great start going 6-0 in pool and although some games were close there were alot of good teams there. Then come monday morning and we go down in the cross over match to get into gold! Long story with that one but we were very dissapointed and all of us know we should of won that game... we were the better team. Then what do you know we get Its Buisness time in the first round of the silver bracket... what a pumped up game for us! We absolutly drowned IBT in 2 straight games. Its always a rivalry playing those guys and really exciting for both teams. The last day put us in the second round of the silver bracket and we lost 2 straight again to a team that we should of beat... oh well we look forward to next year and doing much much better! Island Style finished the season off taking 13th outta 52 at nationals. Good finish but we can and will be better next season... Great job to all the teams in the puget sound region and I look forward to seeing you all again when the indoor season starts again! Good luck to everyone in all the outdoor events this summer!!!!
Update: 3/22/09
We have had 2 tourney's after the last update so there is alot to inform everyone about... So on the 15th of March Island Style played in a event put on by Kris Little at Skyline High School. The morning started off with snow but that did not detour anyone and we had a good showing of 8 teams. Island Style breezed threw our pool going 6-0 and droping every team... We went into bracket play with the tourney first seed and I belive something like +49 points outta pool. We continued to play great droping the next 2 teams in the quarter finals and semi finals... then everything hit the fan. Buisness time... aka SAC also had a great day of play and took the champs spot from us in two straight games... This was not expected but SAC played some of the best ball I have ever seen them play and we mostly fell apart right at the seams... litraly.
However that brings us to yesterdays event. Island style took a trip to the Columbia Empire region for a tourney down in the Portland, OR area. Missing a couple key players we picked up Dan and Nat to fill in at outside hitter and middle. The morning was slow and back and forth. Splitting with 2 teams in our pool we were unsure how our seed would end up. But with those same teams spliting themselves and us finishing off our pool be drowning the 4th seed we took first seed in pool and 2nd seed overall. The quarter finals was a good game but mostly in our favor. We won in two straight. Then got the Lakeview Gold team.... what a nail bitter that was! I belive it was 26-24 both games with us on top! LVC played excellent ball and the matchup was most definatly a great one! With that behind us, low and behold who would be in the fianls??? SAC!!! Yes thats right an all Seattle finals.... in portland!!!!! So after getting the jokes and laughs out it was down to buisness!!! "no pun intended" And that is what Island Style did... feeling a little dissapointed from the last finals with SAC we came out and stomped them!!!! 25-15 and 25-17 were the scores on the day and Island style goes 6-0 in bracket play! I can't wait to see what happens next!
Update: 2/23/09
Ok ok now Island Style is THE force to be reconded with! Great job guys at the last tourney at Mrainer High School on Sunday Feb. 22nd! Our team is looking so organized and in total control at the tourney's we play in. Island Style went 10-1 on the day and took the top finish in the end to remain #1 team in the region! There were a couple close games in the day and then there were alot of blow out games! We continualy get better everytime we play and everyone is looking forward to nationals! We finaly got another tourney in with all the guys who are actually on the team... I belive we are undefeated in tourney's when we actually have the whole team there. Great crowd and great volleyball! Thanks to everyone who showed up to support us from derrick's family to the club girls, and mine! Can't wait for the next one. Island style now has 11 points in the power series. And just 2 more power series wins will clench us the money for the national tourney!

Ok this is a little late but I will do the update for the last 2 tourneys! Island style continues to dominate and prove that we are the best team in the region. On the 28th of December we had an event at Highline CC. There was a pretty good showing of about 8 or 9 teams. Island style went 5-1 in pool and took first place overall to win the tourny... Excelent job by everyone and thanks to Dan for filling in for an absent Russ. Everyone played great and was definatly the type of volleyball that Island Style loves to play. Great job to all the other teams in bracket play. Sonic Death Monkey placed 2nd and everyone is looking better and better as the season progresses. On that note we continued the season into the next weekend on the 4th of January with a more then upsetting lose to Madman in the tourney finals. Props to Matt Weaver and his guys they played an excelent tourney and worked very hard to get the win. In the final match we went back and forth and lost the 3rd game 15-13... read more on this in our forum... Island style still continues to be the team to beat around here and we will make some adjustments and carry on to the next event!
On that Island Style will not be participating in the January 11th event at HCC. We have a couple guys with other requirements and will get back together on the 25th of January!
Update: 12/24/08
Another tourney has come and gone. Island Style is well into the season now and we are consistantly becoming a better and better team. This last weekend was another great tourney and a good showing of teams givin the horrible weather situation! We had 7 teams show up to play and everything got off pretty well. We went 5-1 in pool play and took first seed overall. Took the next 2 games to get into the finals and lost too Madman 2 in 3 sets. The madman team played a good game and they earned it... We were missing our setter this weekend and that partly played a role in the outcome for us. The next tourney will be this sunday the 28th at Highline CC. Hope to see everyone there!!!
Update: 12/17/08
New info! The tourney this weekend on the 20th has been moved to Tacoma CC. Be sure to tell your players... and we will see you on game day!
Update: 12/08/08
Well well well what a tourney!!! Island Style yet again proved that we are a force to be reckoned with, and that we will once again be regional champions! December 7th was a great tourney and another great championship game. We had some up's and down's early on due slightly to the fact that a couple guys did not make it until a little later. But we pulled off a first seed in pool play and a second seed over all. One of our teammates that had been MIA at the previous tourney finally got in some game time at this tourney. Preston is a great volleyball player and will only add to the Island Style arsenal!!!
On the day we went 5-1 in pool and 10-3 overall. With our most intense game in the finals, we lost in 3 games to Whitaker Painting aka the beach players. Both teams played all out and the amazing talent that was present in this match was uncomparable. The first game was neck and neck with Whitaker taking it 25-23. Island style rebounded huge with a devastating come back to win 25-18. The last and final set was also an edge of your seat match with Whitaker barely pulling out the victory 19-17... Great job to all the teams and great job Island Style volleyball!
